Yoga Movement and Yoga Movement Therapy  with Rachel the egg.

Rachel's Trauma- Informed Yoga Movement sessions are an experience available for everyone. Nothing more is needed than a fancy to give it a go.

Yoga Movement Therapy sessions are about the same but more transdisciplinary. Sessions may include ideas on body structure and alignment, autonomic activation and balance, how energy is used in the body and through emotions, understanding one's natural inclinations, and basic Ayurvedic frameworks.

 Chair Yoga for Every Body
Trauma-Informed and
Accessible Yoga
*offered by donation*

Move your body~ Mellow your mind

Chair Yoga is a form of yoga movement that is practiced sitting in a chair and, if available, standing- using the chair for support. This practice strengthens and stretches your body, and helps foster balance and coordination.

In this class we'll also practice some breathing and mindfulness techniques, which may help to reduce stress, connect with your body, and cultivate more contentedness in your life.

For those using a standard chair, an arm-less chair with a flat seat without a cushion will provide more access to movements. Use extra caution with a folding chair, placing against a wall for standing forms. Place chair on a non-slip surface like a yoga mat or carpet.

For those using a wheelchair, wheels should be locked for the session. If available, feet should be on a solid surface.

Props are optional, but yoga blocks and a yoga band will be used during this class. There is no need to purchase anything for these sessions. One could use a few books banded together and a belt or large towel.

Suggested donation $5, via Venmo or PayPal.

Email racheltheegg@gmail.com for zoom link and donation information.

All times are listed in Eastern Time.

Wednesdays   1 - 2 PM

Sundays          11 AM - 12 PM

Testimonials

Rachel shines her light so bright that she'll have you shining too!  The discovery of mind, body, and breath should be fun; Rachel finds a perfect balance between treating this journey with reverence, and making sure you don't take yourself too seriously.  She continues to learn through structured certifications as well as self-study, which is an important quality in a teacher!  I'm grateful to have her as a friend, and would warmly recommend her to anyone.   -Caitlyn Adams

I begin every week with Rachel and love it. I am completely drawn into our yoga practice by her voice, and I always feel stretched in so many great ways by the end of our time together — body and soul!

Why 'the egg'?

The egg’s symbolism extends through many cultures and ages. It has represented the universe, the soul, birth, and rebirth: a thing of no beginning and no end.

The egg is represented and incorporated in many art forms: illustrations, poetry, sculptures and objet d’art, pysanka, literature, movies, song, performance art, tempera paint and more! Its metaphors are rich and varied.

The egg has been used in everything from nineteenth century albumen photographs to modern day school physics experiments to the Great British Baking Show.

There are countless recipes where the egg is either the main show, or an essential participant. It is so necessary that its traits have been imitated by food elements not involving actual egg, including aquafaba (canned chick pea liquid), flax seed/meal or chia seed 'egg', and numerous varieties of powdered, vegetable-based egg substitutes.

People can be described as an egghead or a bad egg. We can be walking on egg shells or building a nest egg, and quite possibly all of the above.

Those born with xx chromosomes are also born with all the eggs they will ovulate over their lifetime. (Ovulate-from medieval Latin ovulum ‘little egg’ and -ate, forming nouns denoting a state or function.)

A goose egg: Meaning zero…or a nasty bump on the head.

The egg comes in different sizes, colors, patterns and textures, and is created by all sorts of different animals, in differing volumes.

The egg is an unknowable question: Which came first, the Chicken or the Egg?

‘An egg is always an adventure; the next one may be different.’- Oscar Wilde. (Personal observation- the next one is ALWAYS different.)

In yoga, there is an egg asana (form).

And so much more!

For me, it is ‘all the things’- both the known and the unknown. All that visit this website came from an egg (with a little help).

I have been doing Chair Yoga with Rachel (by Zoom) for a little over a year. It’s been a very rewarding experience!  I’m an overweight senior who had right hip replacement Dec of 2019.  The surgery went very well – it was wonderful to move without pain.  Prior to surgery I lost range of motion in my right leg and had back issues due to “bad habits” I developed to counter my painful hip. Regular exercise tio not my thing even though it really should be.  Chair Yoga sounded interesting and not strenuous – winner!  I’m SO glad I decided to try it with Rachel!  She is an awesome yoga instructor – very caring, considerate, always checking comfort and progress, fun to chat with.  It’s surprising how much of a workout the simple movements actually are.  Very happy to say my range of motion has improved significantly, my back issues are pretty much gone, my balance has improved, and a wonderful friendship has blossomed. I’m looking forward to continue improving my flexibility and mindfulness through Chair Yoga with Rachel as long as possible.  (Might actually be able to graduate to the mat someday!)

Peace & Love

-Aija

I have been practicing yoga with Rachel for the past three years, both in person and on Zoom. I have Spina Bifida and walk with crutches. Rachel’s chair yoga class has greatly improved my mobility and flexibility. It has helped decrease pain issues in my shoulders from long term crutch use. This class has helped me emotionally as well by providing mediation and focusing on my breath which lifts my mood. Her personality makes the class fun and entertaining. The time goes by quickly, because it is fun. I always feel energized after a session with Rachel and I’m so grateful for it.
